John Baker and June Colley have a collection of 1,300 hosta cultivars in their small garden which makes it one of the largest collections in the UK. The garden – The Hanging Hostas – gets its name from the hostas, planted in pots, which are suspended from supports and tree branches. The Society visited the garden in 2018 and were captivated by the sheer number of hostas from the largest to the smallest displayed in a series of intimate ‘gardens’ which included a waterfall, an Islamic garden and a children’s area with lots of ‘mouse-ear’ hostas. We also enjoyed the tea and June’s homemade cake.
John will talk about his and June’s love or hostas, how to grow and propagate them, how to avoid slug and snail damage, where to use them and which companion plants look good with them.
